What I want: Talented artists with inspiring messages to reach more people with those messages.
What's wrong: I respect popular MCs and the DJs that play them, but I don't believe
it should take a critically acclaimed album like "Manhattan Night" months, or years to be heard by people who LOVE Hip-Hop MUSIC. I know airplay is like an advertisement, so record labels spend alot of money on reserving airplay for artists who they're invested in. They're just trying to get their artists paid, and their children fed... there's nothing wrong with that.
But do so few artists and labels REALLY DESERVE all of the airplay? Nah bruh!
Labels help us spread our music to LARGER areas, hire BIGGER teams, and be available for MORE events, BUT we shouldn't have to be approved by a label executive to be heard in our own city by media channels who appreciate local TALENT. And I'm not the only one who feels this way...
How to help: Since 1985, Nasty Nes has been running a reporting system for DJs to discover and share talent, regardless of promotional budgets. He only asks 1 question:Do the DJs like it?
On April 13th (middle of my Birthday Celebration Week LOL), DJs can report to Nes using the info below. If you ain't a DJ, you can ask any DJs you know to report the song "Come On In" by Self Suffice and Mez (the Manhattanites), using the info below. The song is a metaphor comparing Hip-Hop culture to a home that you build and raise your kids with, reminding everyone who LOVES Hip-Hop culture not to let anyone turn your own culture against you.
Whether you're a DJ or Not, here's what you can do besides reporting "Come On In" to RAP ATTACK LIVES on April 13 (DJs send playlists to RapAttackTop30(at)aol.com before 4pm every Wednesday.)
On facebook: post "adding COME ON IN by @[74713857843:The RapOet (Self Suffice)] to my playlist on April 13",
On twitter: tweet 'adding COME ON IN by @rapoet to my playlist on April 13',
On amazon: rate the album (after you hear it lol!) and mention what you like most in the review
from me on RapOets.com, or through AllisONEshop, Amazon, iTunes, eMusic
I will be giving you an additional gift (while supplies last)
Here's an Important Message from Nasty Nes:
IMPORTANT: I NEED ALL MY RAP ATTACK REPORTING DJ's TO GET BACK ON POINT & SEND IN YOUR PLAYLISTS EVERY WED BY
[6PM East Coast Time, 3PM West Coast Time].
A LOT OF YOU ARE NOT SENDING YOUR PLAYLISTS & WE NEED THEM TO TRULY REP WHAT IS BREAKING ON YOUR SHOW & ON OUR CHARTS. I DON'T WANT TO SEE THE DEATH of COLLEGE/COMMUNITY/INTERNET HIP-HOP RADIO BUT IT WILL BE DEAD IF YOU DON'T FEED US YOUR FEEDBACK & PLAYLISTS & THE DEATH & END OF RAP ATTACK.
Remember it's RAPATTACK LIVES...
